ABOUT MARC ISCHE
Managing Partner, BlueDot Advisor

I advise leaders building and scaling complex, data-driven, connected products—particularly where edge systems, sensing, location, and data architecture are central to long-term differentiation.

My work sits at the intersection of product strategy, systems engineering, and data platforms. I help companies understand what they already have, where real advantage can be created, and how to move from today’s constraints toward a more durable future state.
BACKGROUND
I was trained as a computer engineer at the University of Waterloo and began my career at Qualcomm, working at the intersection of silicon, systems, and emerging applications.
Early in my career, I was part of the team that helped bring the first GPS capabilities into mobile phone chipsets in the early 2000s—at a time when location, sensors, and cameras were just beginning to transition from specialized hardware into mass-market platforms. That work shaped my long-standing focus on low-power systems, sensing, and the practical realities of embedding advanced capabilities into constrained devices.
Over time, my work expanded into building and scaling data platforms that connected edge devices, cloud infrastructure, and large-scale analytics—supporting billions of interactions per week. This included harmonizing dozens of internal data systems to create shared insight, particularly in location, geospatial, and crowdsourced data environments.
I’ve worked across telematics and vehicle platforms, robotics and camera-based systems, and large-scale connected-device ecosystems deployed in both consumer and commercial environments. In senior leadership roles, including at Axon, I’ve launched new products from zero to one, evolved existing platforms, and defined resilient connectivity and location strategies for public safety and professional users.
Across these experiences, I’ve been deeply involved in competitive analysis, acquisition assessment, data business model development, and investor-facing strategy—helping organizations understand not just what they are building, but how it creates defensible value over time.
HOW I THINK
My approach is grounded in first-principles thinking and a deep respect for real-world constraints.
I start by understanding what a company can actually build and iterate on, where its true technical and organizational strengths lie, and which elements are genuinely differentiating versus assumed.
I focus on helping teams bridge the gap between getting value from what they already have today and building a coherent path toward a stronger future-state architecture, product portfolio, or data advantage.
An early influence on how I think about systems and innovation was the British television series Connections with James Burke, which traced how ideas and technologies evolve across unexpected domains. That mindset—seeing how lessons from one area can unlock value in another—has shaped how I approach strategy, systems, and product evolution.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR CLIENTS
In practice, I’m often most useful when a company has accumulated complexity through growth or acquisition, when product or technology strategy feels fragmented, or when leaders believe they have a data edge but struggle to operationalize it.
I’m comfortable operating at the executive and board level, and equally comfortable going deep with product and engineering teams—reviewing architectures, roadmaps, and specifications to ensure strategy translates into something executable.
MARKETS AND DOMAINS OF FOCUS
My work spans industries where connected systems, sensing, and data-intensive platforms play a central role, including IoT and edge platforms, location and geospatial technologies, camera and sensing systems, robotics, mobility and telematics, and enterprise connected devices.
Through BlueDot Advisor, I work directly with leaders on focused advisory engagements and deeper strategic work. All engagements are led by me personally, with additional collaborators brought in only when appropriate.
